Myung-woo Lee, Jong-young Park, Mu- sup Beon Landscape Planning, Fish Biology, Landscape Ecology, Jeonbuk National University Post evaluation on the stream corridor Restoration, Jeonjucheon stream South Korea 2007. 6. 8.

I.Introduction + This is about monitoring and post evaluation on the stream restoration works for establishing guidelines of restoration planning and design + The site is the jeonjucheon jeollabukdo, which is well known as the samplary stream restoration works. + We analized the last 4 year ecological changes about fisheries, stream plants and human activity structures in the stream corridor

Figure1. study site, Jeonjucheon length 10 km

II. Existing corridor features 1. Upstream features: It has high naturality. There are various activities – water front recreation by the elder and residents around the stream

2. Midstream features: It has low naturality. There are parking lots and traditinal market from which pollution emitted. It ’ s connected to urban forest, Daga park. This site might have the potentials for restoration habitat.

3. Downstream features: It has high naturality. There are various activities – water front recreation by the elder and residents around the stream

1.Data collection –Source: ME monthly quality data yr 1999~2005 –Pollution item: BOD, COD, SS, TN, TP –Simulation method: ME, 2004, technical guidelines for total water pollution managenet in watershed III. Water quality evaluation 2. Quality Simulation

3. Water quality evaluation to established criteria upstream, HanbyeokruMidstream, seosingyo 1999200619992006 DO ( ㎎ /L) 1a1a+1a1a+ BOD ( ㎎ /L) 1b1a41b SS ( ㎎ /L)

IV. Fish species and its environment 1. Number of fish species every surveying station (2002-2005)

2. evaluation of fish habitat + fish species diversity + fish channel and small dam + stream form, stream bed,

3. evaluation of river plants + existing vegtetation status + designed plants list + guidelines for maintenance

V. Human using recreation structure evaluation 1.Surveying method: observation and counting number of user ㆍ date: Sep. 22,Sep. 23, Nov. 4, Nov.26 2006. Number of surveying: 348 persons ㆍ time: AM 6-8, AM 12-PM 2, PM 4-6 ㆍ surveying station: pavilion at Hanbeokbo, basket ball playground at Jeonjugyo, gate ball playground at Dagagyo, etc. Fig. Design layout at upper area in stream corridors

2. questionare analysis: 70 persons ▶ use the site once a day: 68.6%, ▶ use any season: 82.7%, use any day: 80%, walking access: 87.7%, ▶ use during 1-2 hours: 64.3%, use lonely: 44.3%, exercising purpose- 86.4%, ▶ use frequency of sports and resting structures: 2-4 times: 35.7%, ▶ much usefulness of human using structure: 58.6% No use of human using structure: 27.1% ▶ total preference degree: moderate: 42.9%, satisfactory:34.3%

3. counting the user numbers - counting a quarter time ( the most counts happened during AM 6:15- 6:30: 37persons - mainly walking activity

4. Human using structure evaluation + types of structure: path, stepping stone, access road, sports facilities, resting facilities, etc + evaluation A, B, C to the results from surveying 구 분 항 목 상류 중류 하류 한벽정자 전주교 농구장 다가교 농 구장 다가교 게 이트볼장 쌍다리 배후습지 백제교 야외무대 친 수 공 간 친 수 공 간 길 보행로 / 자전거도로 B B A C B B 징검다리 A B A B B B 접근로 B C B C A C 면적인 인공시설물 운동시설 A A A C C B 휴게시설 A A A A B A 생태학습공간 B C B B A C 천변로 및 가로수 천변로 및 가로수 C C A C C C

1.targetting the appropriate species 2.introducing the natural detention ponds for reducing pollution 3.Introducing the wildlife presinct zone concept even though in urban stream corridors 4.Optimizing the human using structure sitting and density V. Suggestions for further urban stream restoration project
