3  Mental Imagery; involves all of the senses  See and feel the movement  Hear and smell the water  Even taste the water Visualization/Imagery

4  Must be as realistic as possible  Imagine self successfully completing the skill  Focus on the task at hand  Practice and repetition  Outside of school  Calm, peaceful environment Visualization/Imagery

5  Swimming partially takes place in your head  Think to success ; you can do it  It is possible  Thinking you can do it = being able to do it  Where the mind goes, the body will follow  Self Motivation  You are capable  The task is possible Positive Thinking

6  Stress can be caused by a variety of things:  Doing poorly on an exam  Problems at home  Stress can interfere with your performance  It can prevent you from swimming your best  You must determine the importance of the stressor  Is it under your control?  Should you just let it go? Stress Management

7  Create long term and short term goals  Be specific  Be realistic  Pick few important goals  Determine why the goals are important to you  Figure out how to achieve them  Put your plan into action! Goal Setting
