2. The Beginning Martin Luther King Jr. was born in Atlanta, Georgia on January 15, 1929. He could not play with his friends because he was black. He read lots of books. He worked hard in school. He got a degree from school.

3. School Days and Jobs Martin Luther King, Jr. worked hard in school. He got to graduate two years early. Black and white could not go to the same schools, play together or drink in the same water fountain.

4. What He Believed Martin Luther King, Jr. believed in peace. He believed that he could change the laws. Martin Luther King, Jr. believed that he could make boys and girls be together. Martin Luther King, Jr. believed in freedom and equal rights.

5. I Have a Dream Speech Martin and other people marched from one part to another. Martin said “I have a dream.” They marched in Washington, D. C. He wanted better jobs for blacks.

6. When Martin Luther King Died James Earl Ray shot Martin Luther King, Jr. when he stepped out in front of his motel room on April 4, 1968 in Memphis, Tennessee. He was 39 years old. Martin Luther King, Jr. was buried in Atlanta. An old farm wagon carried him to get him buried.
