3 3 Strategic Cash Grant (SCG) Levy paying firms to claim up to 20% of SDL An approved Mandatory Grant is a prerequisite Due on 31 March 2009 For the 2009 calendar year the grant is due on 31 March 2010 and a simpler submission in MS Excel may be submitted For 2009/10 SCG to be capped at R13 million Forms and guidelines are available on www.fasset.org.za www.fasset.org.za

4 4 Learnership Cash Grant (LCG) Due 31 March 2009 for learnership commencement period 1 January to 31 December 2008 Any extension applications must reach Fasset on or before 31 March 2009 Higher amount for people with disabilities – R27,000 vs. R47,250

5 5 LCG Amounts For 2009/10 amount has increased 1 year (12 months) – R11,000 (disabled R19,250) 2 year (24 months) – R18,000 (disabled R31,500) 3 year (36 months) – R27,000 (disabled R47,250)

6 6 QCTO Quality Council for Trades and Occupations Established in terms of Skills Development Amendment Act (2008) Will develop, design and quality assure qualifications that lead to workplace occupations or professions National Qualifications Framework Act has been promulgated

7 7 Skills Shortages 18.3% of sector experience shortages – mainly SMMEs

8 8 Scarce Skills Trainees to qualify as accountants Trainee auditors Bookkeepers and accounting technicians Financial officers, internal auditors, SCM Support staff in public sector Internal auditors Taxation practitioners (local & international) Managers – finance and accounting

9 9 Reasons for Scarce Skills Salary and package demands Overall demands in the market Better prospects elsewhere Not enough qualified black people Unattractive location of organisation Working conditions Not enough people with the required skills
