Future lifestyle VY_32_INOVACE_150101 16. srpna 2012

Starter Here are some ideas about dealing with environmental problems. Do you think they are useful? Why? Why not? 1.We should start sending rubbish into space. 2.We should use cars only for long journeys. 3.We should only buy a new thing when the old one is really broken, not because of fashion. 4.The Government should invest into wind and solar power stations. 5.We should stop using plastic bags for our shopping. 6.We should all grow our own vegetable. 7.The government should make petrol for cars extremely expensive. 8.People should read and talk more instead of watching TV to save electricity. 9.We should establish nature reserves for animals only. No people would be allowed to go there. 10.Compulsory environmental classes should be introduced at schools.

Listening You will hear Todd and Simon talking about Simon's newborn son and his future: http://www.elllo.org/Text0601/645-Simon- Future.htm Which of the fol l owing topics are mentioned in the recording?

Solution sports technology in the classroom entertainment education disappearing nature Do Tedd and Simon think that these things will change in the future? How?

Listen again 1. When Simon attended school, there were ………... pupils in the class. 2. When Todd was young, typical colours of the computer screen were ………………………… 3. Simon used to go ………….. with friends, while his son may have a ………………... 6. Simon feels sad because he thinks that there is less nature nowadays than ……………. ago.

We always use WILL for predictions without evidence: I think his education will be the same as mine. Of course there will be a lot more technology in his classroom. He'll probably have a jet board instead. He'll probably see a lot less natural sites or won't be able to experience nature as I did.

You can use may/might/could for predictions that are less certain Compare: He'll probably have a jet board instead. Those things might be different.

Practice Write 3 optimistic predictions about the future and 3 pes s imistic predictions. Share you ideas with 2 more people. Are your predictions same or different?

Look at the pictures. Predict what they can be and how they may function. This might/may/could be…. I think this will probably be… People may/might/could use it as …
