3 She’s describing the person she loves Her love doesn’t care about what happens after She uses a metaphor to compare his voice to chime of gold because it’s sweet His eyes remind her of laugher She’d never forget him He means everything to her, her love for him consumed her After the fact she’d wished that she’d never met him

4 She’s saying he’s her love and his quick on his feet He’s young and wild He’s always moving Everything is sunny and good for him She’s using a metaphor that he is “sharply sweet as he seems” because he is as sweet as he appears, acacia is a sweet scent that she relates him to He is everything she’s every dreamed about She wishes that he were somewhere else so she’d never have to see him again or that she never would’ve met him in the first place

5 She uses the metaphor June compare her love for him is very hot and long He doesn’t make friend’s with sad people She’s looking at him and wants him but he doesn’t love her He’ll live a good life in ‘sunny days’ Nothing can bring him down He is everything to her She wishes he’d die so she’d never hear from him again.

6 Biography: Dorothy Parker Dorothy Parker became a legend for her wit, it masked her loneliness. Parker struggled with depression, her uncle went down in the Titanic and died then the following year her father died. She sold her first poem to Vanity Fair in 1914.

9 Literal Meaning My own dear love, he is all my world- He meant everything to her, he was literally her world And the skies are sunlit for him- without him the sky would never have sunlight

10 Figurative Meaning And the skies are sunlit for him- He brightens her day and everything is good and sunny for him My love runs by like a day in June- Her love for him is long and hot And he makes no friends of sorrows- He’s not friends with people who are sad

11 Author's Purpose Dorothy Parker’s purpose in writing this was her way of saying that love hurts. She says that she wishes she’d never meant him because she loves him so much and he doesn’t love her back.
