4 Landscape There is broken topography in the Czech Republic The highest peak is Sněžka(1602 metres) in Krkonoše, which is situated in the north of our country The lowest part of the country is Hřensko, near the river Elbe(130 metres)

6 Waters The largest river is Elbe, which springs from Krkonoše The left affluent of Elbe is Vltava, which springs from Šumava in the south of our country In the east of our country the largest river is Morava, which flows into Danube

12 Prague is situated on the river Vltava in central Bohemia Prague was founded in the 8th century The extensive historic centre of Prague has been included in the UNESCO Population: 1 233 211 people

13 History The era of Charles IV. The city flourished during the 14th century reign of the king of Bohemia and Holy Roman Emperor Charles IV of the new Luxembourg dynasty. He ordered the building of the New Town adjacent to the Old Town. The Charles Bridge was erected to connect the new district to Malá Strana. Monuments by Charles include the Saint Vitus Cathedral, the oldest gothic cathedral in central Europe, which is actually inside the Castle, and the Charles University.

The many other sports with professional leagues and structures include basketball, volleyball, team handball, track and field athletics and floorball.
