2 Part I: Review 1:1 Initiative Rollout Plan Rationale: – #1 If students do not learn the way we teach, teach the way they learn! – #2 Teaching 21 st Century Learning Skills – #3 Preparing our students for success not just at CHS but for life beyond the walls of CHS. – #4 Next Generation Assessments: PARCC and AIR based EOC/PBA Assessments: New for Class of 2018 On-line based starting in Spring of 2015 Students can take these assessments on Google Chromebook

3 Device Selection and Teacher Technology Training 2012-2014: Agenda – #1 Site Visits: See what other schools are doing. – #2 Teacher Buy In/Training: Technology Tuesdays – 2 years of training on how to use technology in the classroom as an educational tool. – #3 Finance: Do we have the money to do this and can we sustain it? – #4 Device: What device do we want to choose? Google Chromebook was not going to be a our choice… – #5 Plan a 3 Phase Rollout Process: Buying and Distributing Devices Wireless Network Infrastructure Upgrade Training for Students and Continued Training for Staff

4 Why the Chromebook??? Rationale: – #1 Affordability – #2 Ease of Management – #3 High Impact in an Educational Setting We researched and tested the following devices: – iPads, Windows Laptops, Chromebooks, Android Tablets, LearnPads and Kindles.

5 Non-Negotiables for this Plan #1 Sustainability: – We won’t create a 1:1 Initiative that doesn’t plan for long- term sustainability. Learned from site-visits. #2 Intentions into Practice: – We won’t create a 1:1 Initiative unless our teachers are adequately trained and prepared to implement these devices as educational tools #3 Devices Go Home with Students: – We won’t create a 1:1 Initiative unless we commit to the ideas that our students would own the device for the school year.

6 Phase I: Order Devices Purchase and Distribute: Order 50 HP Chromebooks for CHS Teachers: Week of July 14-18, 2014 – Cost: $14,722 total $250 a device per teacher Delivery of 50 HP Chromebooks: Week of August 11-15 – Configure each device for wi-fi and create accounts for all CHS teachers. – Assign device to each CHS teacher. Distribution of 50 HP Chromebooks to CHS Teachers: August 18 th 8 am at the CHS Opening Staff Meeting for the 2014-2015 school year. Technology Tasks: – Play with the device and learn how to use it, manipulate it – Teachers must find 5 free apps that they would like loaded to student Chromebooks that will supplement the instruction teachers are providing their students through these new educational tools.

7 Teacher Training Teacher Training: All Staff: CHS Auditorium 2 Trainings a month starting in October and ending in February. – 1 st and 2 nd Tuesday of every month teachers will gather in the CHS Auditorium. 1 st Meeting: October 7 th Last Meeting: February 10th Training Topics: – Pending Topics Device Usage Google Apps: Google Docs, Apps, etc. (Google Suite) Apps and Application to the Classroom Setting March-May: Teacher Training Continues: – Teacher led. Train and Improve Ourselves – How our teachers are using these devices to strengthen instructional practices.

8 Phase II: Wireless Network Upgrade End of August: – Conduct Signal Strength Study to Determine Maximum Coverage for Wi-Fi in all Classrooms at CHS. End of September: – Based on Study Purchase Additional Wi-Fi Access Points to Bolster the Wi-Fi Coverage. – Purchase Larger Layer 3 Core Switch Due to Increased Demands on the Network. End of December: – Completion of Instillation of all Wireless Network Infrastructure Upgrades

9 Phase III: Student Chromebooks Order 950 HP Chromebooks for CHS Students: End of October Delivery of 950 HP Chromebooks: End of November Device Configuration and Assignment: End of December Configure each device for wi-fi and create accounts for all CHS students. – Assign device to each CHS student.

10 Phase III: Student Chromebooks Distribution of 950 HP Chromebooks to CHS Students: Jan. 20-22 – Done in Students Homerooms – Acceptable Use Agreement Distributed, Reviewed, and Signed January 20, 2015 – Freshmen: 7:45-9:45 am – Sophomores: 10 am-12 pm January 22, 2015 – Seniors: 7:45-9:45 am – Juniors: 10 am-12 pm Education for Use of Devices handled in these meeting.

11 Phase III: Student Chromebooks Follow-Up Training with all CHS Students: Friday, Feb. 20, 2015 – Seniors: 7:45-8:45 am – Juniors: 9-10 am – Sophomores: 10:15- 11:15 am – Freshman: 1:15-2:15 pm

12 Continued Education, Training, and Support for our 1:1 Initiative Phase I Complete. Phase II and III are ongoing: – Phase II: Teacher Training Continues – Phase III: Student Training Continues
