2 Origins  It was written by the American classical music composer and teacher Katherine Kennicott Davis in 1941  It was originally titled “Carol of the Drum” and was based on a traditional Czech carol.  It was recorded multiple times by different artists until Harry Simeone released it under the name “The Little Drummer Boy”

3 Religious Significance  The lyrics are about a young boy who was summoned by the Magi to the Nativity. The boy had no gift for Jesus, so he played a song for Him with his drum  The lyrics that mention it are “I played my best for him” and “He smiled at me”

4 Relation to Church History  It is connected to Church History by the Nativity story  The Nativity is a big part of Church History because it is the birth of Jesus  The Magi are also a part of the Nativity story  They called the Little Drummer Boy to Jesus as the Church does
