3 1. What was the Neolithic Revolution? Refers to the time period of 7000BC to 3000BC Defined as the change from a nomadic hunting-gathering lifestyle to a settle agricultural lifestyle Life at this time was characterized by the presence of permanent agriculture and animal husbandry Walled towns became prevalent and are a significant factor in defining this era

4 2. How did this way of life differ from the Paleolithic era? The Paleolithic era was characterized by a nomadic hunting and gathering lifestyle. While hunting and gathering continued to occur during the Neolithic era settled agriculture provided the overwhelming majority of people needs. The Neolithic people were no longer nomadic in nature but rather established settled communities.

5 3. How did the society evolve as result of the Neolithic Revolution? Sustained agriculture led to greater stability and security in life Walled town and cities began to emerge with emphasis on settlements in river valleys Increased agricultural output allowed for population expansion With food surpluses there was bartering for commodities and the creation of a division of labor There became a strong need for a government organized around a central authority Towns and individual houses led to greater personal independence The emergence civilization defined as the establishment of urban centers, mastered the process of smelting metals, and developed a writing system
