Doxology Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; Praise Him, all creatures here below; Praise Him above, ye heavenly host; Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.— Amen.

Memory Verse Mat 22:37, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all of your mind.”

John 14:30-31 Concluding Principles.

“I will no longer speak.” Jesus is concluding this portion of the discourse that was literally spoken in the Upper Room.

Satan had been possessing Judas Iscariot earlier in the supper, John 13:27.

Once Judas enacted the deal to betray Jesus, Satan left him and returned to Jesus and the disciples.

Principle: Satan is not omnipresent, he can only be in one place at a time.

Satan will depart again, to get back inside of Judas, to complete the betrayal.

Principle: Satan is the ruler of the “sphere of our world”, its political and socioeconomic administration, but God has and will always own the world as its Creator.

“He has not one thing in Me.” Satan has no power over Jesus Christ because Christ has no sin nor a sin nature. Therefore, there is no affinity between Satan and Jesus.

This is in sharp contrast to what our Lord has told and will continue to tell the disciples and all believers. John 14:20, 23-24; 17:23

Satan’s plan was to cause Jesus to fail His mission, not fulfil the will of the Father by causing Him to sin as a reaction to the maltreatment of the Pharisees.

Jesus welcomes Satan’s attacks so that He can prove out the Father’s Plan by being obedient to His Will. He wants to prove out the Father’s love for all of mankind, by being sent to the Cross.

Principle: Your love for God is demonstrated through your obedience to His Word and Plan.

John does not record the fact that they sang a hymn, see Matthew 26:30.

Mat 26:30, “After singing a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.”

Ryrie notes, “They probably sang all or part of Psalm 115-118, the traditional Passover Hallel.”
