14 Answering Questions Pg. 82 Chapter: Slouching towards Thanksgiving Lets try answer a few of the questions that people had about this chapter using what we learned.

15 Paraphrasing: Benefits Understanding the true meaning behind the author's words Helps you become a better reader Can make you have a better understanding of the book Can help you participate in class discussions

16 Paraphrasing Tips Define any words you don't understand. The definition (s) could be the key to demystify the underlining meaning (s) of the passage. Ask questions. Asking questions can lead to more questions, which helps to be open minded and look at the passage from many points of view. Read the entire passage before doing anything. Reading everything before starting to paraphrase may help you in understanding the basic gist (summary). Then you can add in the little details that support the big idea. Use your own words. Don't add in words to the existing passage and call it your own. To avoid potential plagiarism, construct a paragraph or two by yourself. This way you can take credit for your own work.

17 Easy Paraphrasing Practice Paraphrase the Following Sentences 1. "We were supposed to kill the Indian to save the child." (35. 17-18) 2. "Each funeral was a funeral for all of us. We lived and died together." (166. 15-16)
