2  As told by the name, the job entails planning and creating a design to promote things such as  Logos  Backgrounds  Illustrations  The occupation (Graphic Artist) is actually made up of many others  All of which go through processes that regularly include  Meeting with the client or company to understand their wants and goals of a product.  Making a plethora of designs and reproducing/recreating the best on a designing program.  Bringing the finished products back to the client for a final evaluation. What does a graphic designer do?

3  It’s actually very hard to determine what a graphic designer will earn annually.  Some novice designers may earn as little as $30,000*.  On the other hand, some more skilled or acclaimed designers, may earn as much as 45,000*. ▪ *Because of many sources I was unable to get a stable amount ▪ *Graphic designers are not normally paid overtime  Sometimes it depends on your design location and client; there are many places you could get your designs localized.  “Jobseekers are expected to face keen competition; individuals with Web site design and animation experience will have the best opportunities.” – Bureau of Labor Statistics How much do graphic designers earn?

4  In this occupation you must have  A creative mind  Good comprehension of computer programs  Patience and ability to see the needs of a client  Because the job doesn’t involve only drawing and computer skills it is not be uncommon to have  Photographic expertise  Good eye for olden, modern or other forms of art  Promoting skills  Knowledge of color, shade, hue, thus forth… ▪ Skills are dependent on occupation What skills do you need to be a good graphic designer?

5  The growth of graphics in modern society has taken spikes in the past years due to things like  Internet interactivity  Television commercial advertisements  Video game entertainment competition  All of which are still growing in size and are opening new doors to new generations  In fact the graphic design industry grows 13% nationally each year  This opens up the gates of opportunity for almost any person with potential with jobs opening at 12,500 per year  Interestingly 26% of all designers are freelancers (self employed artists) How is the economic stability of graphic designing?

6  As said before, the occupation may vary but the knowledge is still all the more important  Design  Communications and Media  English Language*  Computers and Electronics  Fine Arts  Sales and Marketing**  Customer and Personal Service** ▪ *Being multilingual is always better in any job opportunity ▪ **As independent freelancers these will be helpful What do you need to know how to be a graphic designer?

7  You can take many classes to improve your skills including  Art  Commercial Art  Computer Applications  Desktop Publishing  Drawing and Painting  Graphic Arts and Printing  Graphic Design  Web Page Design  Freelancers may be more interested in management skills like  Accounting  Entrepreneurship  Introduction to Business What courses would be helpful to your success as a graphic designer?

8  Really, most of the work encountered is not too physical, you will normally  Sit for long period of time  Repeat processes many times  Use hands to handle, control or feel objects, tools or controls ▪ These may lead to carpal tunnel but I’m no physician  All of which will be done while on other occasions you will  See details of objects that are less than a few feet away  See differences between colors, shades, and brightness  Speak clearly so listeners can understand  Understand the speech of another person  Use fingers to grasp, move, or assemble very small objects How is graphic designing physically demanding?

9  There will be many activities that you will encounter that have been mentioned before and others to know such as  Talk to clients about design project  Prepare sketches of images or logos  Consider the clients' needs  Draw samples of proposed layout or design  Present to client for approval  Draw and print illustrations and other images using computer software  Decide on size and arrangement of images  Make photograph layouts and develop film for client  Designing layouts for magazines, business reports and Internet websites  Produce credits for television or other film media  Prepare drawings to show sequence for story development for film production  Maintain archives of images and past work What are some activities will you encounter as a graphic designer?
