ACCME & ANCC Accreditation ACC is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians ACC was awarded “Accreditation with Commendation” in 2013 for a six year term ACC is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation

5. What is a Joint Providership? The ACCME defines joint providership as the: “providership of a CME activity by one accredited and one non-accredited organization. Therefore, ACCME accredited providers that plan and present one or more activities with a non-ACCME accredited provider are engaging in a joint providership”

6. What does this mean in plain English? The American College of Cardiology is the accredited provider. An ACC Chapter is the non-accredited provider As the accredited provider, ACC must take full responsibility for the content and conduct of a CME activity.

7. What is meant by “full responsibility”? Documentation of needs assessment Analysis of gaps in learners knowledge, competence or performance A Planning Committee Process Development of a fair-balanced & evidence based agenda Disclosure and resolution of real or perceived conflicts of interest Management of commercial support Evaluation & outcomes assessment of program

8. Why is ACC so careful with Joint Providerships? The ACCME may request an audit of any certified activity for which ACC jointly provides CME If there are any complaints regarding a Chapter Joint Providership, ACC is accountable The ACC educational “brand” stands for high- quality, evidence-based and fair balanced activities and must not be compromised

Quality Standards for Certified Education at ACC Evidence of needs assessment & gap analysis Evidence-based and fair balanced educational content Peer review Overall goal for activity Learning objectives – actionable & measurable Evaluation, assessment and expected outcomes of activity Lack of commercial bias and input by a commercial entity Compliance with ACCME and ANCC Standards and Guidelines

10. Ongoing involvement in the planning process…. There is no “rubber stamp” Nurse Planner as active participant in planning process Final review, approval of agenda & learning objectives Designation of CME and CNE credits Review and approval of any promotional materials or syllabi prior to publication Commercial support Link to credit claim and evaluation tool Final activity files 30 days post activity On-site audit Fee-based

Obtaining an ACC joint providership…next steps Notify Accreditation Team as early as possible of the Chapter’s intention to develop a certified educational activity & to request a joint providership Note: Certified chapter activities typically are annual meetings, summits or updates that are initiated and developed by the Chapter leadership ACC does not provide joint providerships for activities that are initiated and developed by individual chapter members
