LESSON OBJECTIVES PERIODIC TABLE PERIOD GROUP QUIZZES BACK

LESSON OBJECTIVES: By the end of the lesson you should be able to: describe the arrangement of elements in the periodic table outline at least TWO trends across a period outline at least TWO trends down a group NEXT Homepage

INSTRUCTION: Click on the link below, watch the video, then state what you think the video is about LINK : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s_AIE-mZBWkhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s_AIE-mZBWk BACK NEXT Homepage

Ready to know if you are right? Click here to find outClick here to find out BACK Homepage

Girls go to a library trying to find a Harry Potter book They had problems initially because the books were arranged according to numbers they did not understand Why is it important to arrange things? Have the answer? CLICK HERE TO FIND OUTCLICK HERE TO FIND OUT BACKHomepage

ANSWER: 1.So that they are easier to find, 2.and because the arrangement of items gives information about them NEXT BACK Homepage

INSTRUCTION: This activity is to be done in pairs. Explain how you have arranged the items. Now, CLICK HERE TO VIEW ACTIVITYNow, CLICK HERE TO VIEW ACTIVITY BACK HomepageClick here after performing activity to move on

MOVE ONHomepageDO ACTIVITY AGAIN I)ROWS are alphabetically arranged II)COLUMNS are numerically arranged

INSTRUCTION: CLICK HERE TO VIEW THE ELEMENTSCLICK HERE TO VIEW THE ELEMENTS. Examine their arrangement then state the order in which they are arranged BACK Homepage

In the periodic table, elements are arranged into rows called periods. Across a period: elements are arranged in order of increasing atomic number each element differs from its previous by one proton and one electron the number of shells that the elements have is the same the elements become more non-metallic, moving to the right NEXTBACKHomepage

In the periodic table, elements are arranged according to their atomic numbers in: 1.Rows (click on ‘rows’ to see how elements are arranged in them)Rows 2.Columns (click on ‘columns’ to see how elements are arranged in them)Columns HomepageVIEW PERIODIC TABLE AGAIN

NEXT SOME ELEMENTS IN THE SECOND ROW INSTRUCTION: examine the following elements in the second row. Do you notice any PATTERN among them? BACK Homepage

SOME ELEMENTS IN THE SECOND COLUMN INSTRUCTION: examine the following elements in the second column. Do you notice any PATTERN among them? NEXT BACK Homepage

In the periodic table, elements are arranged into columns called groups. Down a group: elements are arranged in order of increasing atomic number each element has one shell more than the previous element all the elements have the same number of electrons on the outer shell the elements become more metallic, as the group is descended. NEXT BACKHomepage

There are 8 groups in the periodic table and 7 periods The group number indicates the number of electrons that each element in the group has on its outer shell The period number indicates the number of shells that the elements have. LET ME SEE HOW MUCH I HAVE LEARNT Homepage BACK

1. The reason for resemblance among elements of a given group in the periodic table is the A)similarity in the valence (outer) shell of the atomssimilarity in the valence (outer) shell of the atoms B)similarity in their nuclear structuresimilarity in their nuclear structure C)fact that they all have the same number of protonsfact that they all have the same number of protons D)fact that they all have the same number of neutronsfact that they all have the same number of neutrons NEXT QUESTIONBACKHomepage

2. In the periodic table, metallic characteristics decrease from PERIODGROUP A)right to leftbottom to topright to leftbottom to top B) right to lefttop to bottomright to lefttop to bottom C) left to right bottom to top left to right bottom to top D) left to right top to bottomleft to right top to bottom NEXT QUESTIONHomepagePrevious question

3. An element with atomic number 11 is likely to have similar chemical properties to the element whose atomic number is A)99 B)77 C)33 D)22 NEXT QUESTIONHomepagePrevious question

4. In the table below, the atomic numbers for elements W, X, Y and Z are CORRECT. The group numbers and periods MAY or MAY NOT be correct.
