IEEE 802.21 MEDIA INDEPENDENT HANDOVER DCN: 21-14-0163-01-SAUC Title: Media Independent Service Use Case for Open Screen Service Platform Date Submitted: November 5, 2014 Presented at IEEE 802.21 Session #65 –San Antonio, USA Authors or Source(s): Hyunho Park, Yong-Tae Lee, Won Ryu, and Hyeong-Ho Lee (ETRI) Abstract: This document introduces media independent service use case for platform of Open Screen Service that is a screen service based on context aware system. System of Open Screen Service shows contents by sensing context (e.g., temperature and humidity) and movement of human being. 121-14-0163-00-SAUC

Open Screen Service (1/2) Open Screen Service – Screen service based on context-aware system – Open Screen Service shows contents by sensing context (e.g., temperature and humidity) and movement of human being by using multiple cameras and sensors.  Context: Any information that can be used to characterize the situation of an entity (e.g., person, place, or object)  Reference: G. D. Abowd and A. K. Dey, “Towards a Better Understanding of Context and Context-Awareness,” Handheld and Ubiquitous Computing Lecture Notes in Computer Science Volume 1707, 1999, pp 304-307.  Examples of physical context: humidity and temperature  Examples of personal context: gender and age 321-14-0163-00-SAUC

Open Screen Service (2/2) Scenario example of Open Screen Service : Digital signage – Advertising by using personal context (e.g., gender and age) and environmental context (e.g., temperature) 4 Cola Temperature sensor Camera Summer Temperature: 37°C, 98.6°F Human Being * Gender: male * Age: 17 Temperature is 37°C (98.6°F). Captured image Open Screen Server Media Server Contents (e.g., recent Cola advertisement) Analyzing personal context: male and teen age Analyzing environmental context: 37°C, 98.6°F Recommendation of contents (e.g., Cola advertisement) Camera control: tracking human being Screen Screen control: Activating screen 21-14-0163-00-SAUC

Open Screen Service based on Media Independent Services Framework 5 Cola Sensor Camera Event Service with sensed data Event Service with captured image Open Screen Server Contents (e.g., recent Cola advertisement) Context Data Base Information Service for analyzing context Context Analyzer Context Screen Controller Control Service to control media service Recommendation of contents Control Service to control cameras Tracking human beings 21-14-0163-00-SAUC Control Service to control screen Activating screen

6 Messages for media independent services can be expanded for supporting context-aware system such as Open Screen Service. In the future, context-aware system will be applied to IoT (Internet of Things) systems, and thus media independent services framework needs to be enhanced for supporting IoT systems. Further Discussions 21-14-0163-00-SAUC
