5 2009 Summer Institute Norms 1.Be open to giving and receiving positive feedback and constructive criticism. 2.Be respectful of “air” time – avoid monopolizing the conversation; stay on topic. 3.Participate! Add to the conversation. 4.Watch your watch! Be on time in the morning, and be back on time from breaks. 5.Avoid sidebar conversations, cell phone use, texting, etc. 6.Be positive! Have fun! 7.Respect confidentiality. 8.Speak clearly so everyone can hear. 9.Come prepared.

13 Special Guest Author Announcement: Trish Geran ABOUT THE AUTHOR Las Vegas native Trish Geran is the director of the award-winning film The Other Side of the Coin, a documentary about African Americans in Las Vegas. Geran’s efforts as a community organizer and activist have been recognized nationally by the NAACP and the Action Network Alliance, and she has produced, written, and hosted community television programs in both California and Nevada. Beyond the Glimmering Lights is Geran’s first book.
