2 Policies and Procedures Part of your role as an employee in a workplace is to support and promote your company and the IT Sector to its clients. This includes providing a service to internal clients (people who you work with inside the company eg. fellow colleagues) and external clients (people outside of your company who deal with your company eg. Customers and Contractors) and meeting their needs within the guidelines of the policies and procedures of your company.

3 Policies and Procedures Every company will have its own policies and procedures. When starting a new job it is important to check with your direct manager what the correct procedures are to follow and to become familiar with the policies of the company.

4 Policy A policy is a guiding principle that allows all employees to be consistent in the way in which they work within the organisation. Policies are written to ensue that no rules are broken and that a quality product or service is always delivered to clients.

5 Examples of policies A company might have some of these policies: No employee can send personal emails during work time A client must fully pay for their computer before it is delivered All staff need to wear black pants or skirts with a white shirt. All staff must report any occupational health and safety hazards when they see them. You need to give 4 hours notice to your supervisor before you call in sick

6 Procedure A procedure is a process, method or course of action that is followed to ensure consistency and quality of a service or good. A procedure is designed to tell who to do what, how and when. A procedure is a specific work sequence Procedures assign responsibility to individuals or sections or departments.

7 Examples of Procedures A company might have the following procedures: What to do if there is an emergency eg. Bomb threat How to process a credit card sale of a new computer How to answer and forward calls on the company telephone professionally How to set up a user name and password for new staff

8 Policies and Procedures Conclusion Policies and procedures are reviewed on a regular basis to make sure they are relevant to current work practices and to make sure they keep up to date with any company changes Policies and procedures make sure that company and its employees are following designated guidelines
