Males are suspended at about twice the rate of females. Black students were suspended more than any other race. Black males were suspended more frequently than any other group. Black male were suspended at a rate disproportionate to their enrollment. Students in ninth grade had the highest number of suspensions followed by 7 th, 8 th and 10 th grade. Students in the K-3 grades have a lower number of suspensions compared to higher grades. Special needs students with specific learning disabilities were suspended more than any other special education category. Repeated violations of school rules and aggressive behavior (specifically, fighting) were the most frequent reasons for suspension. Suspension rates were highest in three high schools and one middle school. This quarter, the district had an overall suspension rate of 7.2 per 100 students. This is a slight increase from the first quarter rate of 6.7.
