4 What is SAT Fun Club? You will… learn about the SAT practice to take the SAT have fun while learning

5 What is the SAT? The SAT is… a test taken during your junior or senior year of high school used by colleges & universities to make admission decisions (along with other factors, such as high school grades)

6 Why am I taking the SAT in 7th grade? Taking an above-level test will give you… experience with the test insight into planning for high school & beyond

7 What if I don’t do well? This is the same exam that high school juniors & seniors take You are required to complete the entire exam Your scores on the SAT as a 7th grader will NEVER be sent to a college unless you request it.

8 Should I study for the SAT? Do’s Do become familiar with the test structure Do understand the timing of each section Do learn guessing strategies Do complete a practice test Don’ts Don’t study a lot for the test Don’t worry about your score Don’t worry about passing or failing (it’s not a pass/fail test)

12 What does the SAT evaluate? Math Questions on… arithmetic operations algebra geometry statistics probability

13 How is the SAT scored? Reading: 200-800 points Math: 200-800 points Writing: 200-800 points Total possible: 2400 points Plus, two subscores on writing multiple choice: 20-80 essay: 2-12

14 Should I answer every question? Questions that you skip don’t count for or against your score. Points are not taken away for wrong answers on math questions where you need to enter the answer into a grid.

15 How much time will I have to take the SAT? 10 sections 25 min essay Six 25-min sections (math, reading, writing) Two 20-min sections (math, reading, writing) A 10-min multiple-choice writing section Total test time = 3 hrs and 45 minutes

16 Why take the SAT? It tests what you know and how to apply it It’s fair to everyone It’s more than just a test It helps you select the right fit for college
