1 2 nd Grade Social Studies Designed By: Carmen M. Emmanuelli, Leslee Myers, Simone Black, JeanJacques Marie and Bobby King Hello!! Today we are going to play a game called “Diversity” Probably at one time or another you have heard your parents, sister, brother, or any other person use this big word around you. It is a big and a difficult word to describe, but today together we are going to learn what this word means by researching different ethnics group and how each one of them celebrates its holidays. It will also give us the opportunity to learn their differences and similitaries, and at the same time we can contrast them with our own. Are you ready to play Diversity?!!!!!!!!!!!, Let’s the fun begin!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. INTRODUCTION/ TASK/ PROCESS/ EVALUATION/ RESOURCES/ CONCLUSION

2 The Task Student, We are going to do this activity in groups of five student each. We are going to compare and contrast how different ethnics groups like to celebrate different holidays in the USA. We are learning about different ethnic groups and their holidays to help us understand that each group is different and sometimes celebrate things in different ways and for different reasons. We will be using different websites and tools available in the classroom to help us answer questions about the difference, the contrast of these ethnic group’s Holidays and compared them with USA. Are they similar or different?

Each team will research the ethnic group chosen. 4. Students will research the ethnic group chosen and list the similarities and differences in which this ethnic groups celebrate their holidays and how they compare or contrast with USA. 6. After the research is done, students will compare the findings with other teams and we get ready to play a game. ARE YOU READY TO PLAY “DIVERSITY”

6 CONCLUSION Different ethnic groups live in the USA. Many of us celebrate the same holidays, but in special ways. Because we live in a diverse country it is important for us to learn about the unique ways other cultures celebrate their holidays and the values and richness they add to our country.

7 OBJECTIVES 1. Students will learn how to work in groups. 2. Students will learn how to use resources available to them to do their research. 3. After finishing their research, students will be able to recognize, the differences and similarities of their ethnic group and will be able to compare and contrast those differences and similarities with those of the USA.
