Question: How do the properties of soils affect the way we can use them? Activities: DO NOW! ~ Have A5 AQ “What is soil?” ready to hand in during roll call. Read intro to A11 Garden Action on page A-49. Group read aloud page A-49 and page A-51. Pass out Student Sheet 11.1 “Garden Actions: Weighing the Advantages and Disadvantages”. (15 minutes) Review Student Sheet 11.1 as a class. (15 minutes) Assign A11 AQ #2. Answer may be written on Student Sheet 11.3 “Writing Frame: The School Garden” or on a separate piece of paper by following the same format. HOMEWORK: Finish A11 Garden Action Soil Assessment. Due 10/18 (B) & 10/21 (A)

Convince the principal with evidence you gathered in this unit. Be sure to present the trade-offs of your recommendation. Letter should be addressed to Principal Smith.
