 (Psalms 145:17) The LORD is righteous in all his ways...  (Habakkuk 1:13) Your eyes are too pure to look on evil; you cannot tolerate wrong.  (1 John 1:5) God is light; in him there is no darkness at all.

 (Isaiah 57:15) For this is what the high and lofty One says-- he who lives forever, whose name is holy: "I live in a high and holy place, but also with him who is contrite and lowly in spirit, to revive the spirit of the lowly and to revive the heart of the contrite.

 (Titus 3:5-6) He saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, {6} whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior,

1. Christ was holy and was punished for our sin on the cross (Romans 5:8; 2 Corinthians 5:21). 2. God forgives our sin and declares us holy if we put our faith in Christ (Romans 3:20-26). (2 Corinthians 5:21) God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. (Romans 3:21-26) But now a righteousness from God, …comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe… {25} God presented him as a sacrifice of atonement, through faith in his blood…{26} to be just and the one who justifies those who have faith in Jesus.

 (1 John 1:7-8) But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin. {8} If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us.

 Understand God’s motive – He wants our best  (Proverbs 19:3) A man's own folly ruins his life  (James 3:16-17) …such ”wisdom” is… of the devil. …there you find disorder and every evil practice. {17} But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit…  Understand the cost – It takes effort to be holy  (Hebrews 12:14) Make every effort …to be holy.  (1 Peter 1:14-19) As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance. {15} But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do…

We Christians greatly enjoy talking about the provision of God, how Christ defeated sin on the cross and gave us His Holy Spirit to empower us to victory over sin. But we do not as readily talk about our own responsibility to walk in holiness. … We are simply reluctant to face up to our responsibility. We pray for victory when we know we should be acting in obedience. Jerry Bridges, The Pursuit of Holiness
