The y-intercept and slope-intercept form/ Writing linear equations from graphs. 1/11/15

y-intercept (b): The place where a line crosses the y-axis; (0,y).

Slope-intercept form of an equation y = mx + b Where P is a point (x, y), m is the slope, and b is the y-intercept.

Graphing using Slope-Intercept form: Start by placing b (0, y) on the graph, then use the slope to move to a second point and draw the line.

Example 1 Graph: y = 3x + 4

Identifying parts of the graph 1. Identify two points on the line. 2. Determine the slope of the line. 3. If possible, identify the y- intercept of the line. 4. Substitute the m and b into: y=mx+b

Write the equation in slope-intercept form for the given graph.
