The Book of Proverbs Chapter 10 Vs. 6-14, Contrasting the communication styles of the righteous and wicked! Pt. 2

Prov 3:5, “Trust in the LORD with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding.”

The righteous are those who learn from and obey God’s Word, subordinating their understanding to God’s “wisdom”, Prov 3:5.

Prov 4:18, “But the path of the righteous is like the light of dawn, that shines brighter and brighter until the full day.”

The foolish are those who reject and rebel against the counsel and correction of God’s wisdom, Prov 1:7; 9:7-12.

Prov 4:19, “The way of the wicked is like darkness; they do not know over what they stumble.”

Prov 19:27, “A worthless man digs up evil, while his words are like scorching fire.”

Prov 10:9 Walking in God’s Word blesses you with both inward integrity and security of outward reputation.

The Contrast! Those who twist the truth of God’s Word will be made evident by the perversion they create.

It will bring shame and ruin, especially for a life built on trust, and after death it destroys his reputation.

Prov 10:10 He who winks the eye will give others pain, hurt, injury, sorrow, or wounds.

Prov 6:12, “A worthless person, a wicked man, is the one who walks with a perverse mouth, 13 who winks with his eyes, who signals with his feet, who points with his fingers.”

Prov 16:30, “He who winks his eyes does so to devise perverse things; He who compresses his lips brings evil to pass.” Cf Psa 35:19.

Two kinds of bad communication: malicious, secretive gestures and babbling chatter. The mischievous troublemaker pains others, yet it causes a corresponding backlash onto himself.

Prov 10:11 “Fountain of Life” Through your life you can invigorate the lives of others, by the demonstration of your faith, witnessing the Gospel, teaching the Word of God, etc.

The Contrast! Operation “Cover Up”, part 2. Cf. vs. 6b

Here it is the effect it has on others. It is not a “fountain of life” that lifts people up, but a den of iniquity, a gaping hole, that brings people down to Sheol. Cf. Prov 26:23-28.

Prov 10:12 “Hatred stirs up strife” Subjective revulsion toward someone else leads to causing 2 or more parties to have a conflict with each other. Cf. Prov 15:18; 17:19; 28:25: 29:22

Prov 17:19, “He who loves transgression loves strife; he who raises his door seeks destruction.”

The 7 th “Abomination to the Lord.” Prov 6:19b “And one who spreads strife among brothers.”

The contrast of the righteous! “Love” – AHABAH, אַהֲבָה. “Love between two people, brotherly love.”

“Covers” in contrast to the gossiping lips of the wicked, you keep things to yourself.

“Covers” in contrast to the gossiping lips of the wicked, you keep things to yourself. “ALL Transgressions” Do not air their dirty laundry!

1 Peter 4:8, “Above all, keep fervent in your love for one another, because love covers a multitude of sins.” Cf. Prov 15:17.

By “covering”, you reconcile that person, save them from death, and preserve the peace, cf. Prov 19:11; 25:21-22; 1 Cor 13:4-7; Gal 6:1; James 5:20; Cf. Gen 9:21-27.

By refusing to speak badly of someone else it builds and strengthens relationships, Prov 17:9a; as contrasted with Prov 17:9b; 26:20-28.

Prov 17:9, “He who conceals a transgression seeks love, but he who repeats a matter separates intimate friends.”

Grace Offering Prov 3:9-10, “Honor the LORD from your wealth and from the first of all your produce; 10 So your barns will be filled with plenty and your vats will overflow with new wine.”
