The people were led by God 9:15-23
He led them around Edom
Saved them from war with kinsmen
The people complain with fiery words
Focused on what they did not have
Loathed God’s blessings
God punished them (not the first time) 11:1-3
Fiery serpents sent by God to bite them
Many died

3. The Bronze Serpent – Numbers 21:4-9
The people confessed their sin against God and against Moses
Asked Moses to pray for them
God’s solution was for Moses to make a fiery serpent of brass upon a pole
Whoever looked on it would live
Remedy resembled the affliction
The people had to do something to live
Serpents not removed

4. The Bronze Serpent – 2 Kings 18:1-7
Some burned incense to the bronze serpent
They made an idol out of the instrument of God’s grace
Hezekiah destroyed it
Hezekiah recognized what it was (Nehushtan) The power was not in the object
It was in the obedient faith of the person
God was pleased with Hezekiah destroying it
Bronze serpent is a type of Jesus on the cross

5. Son of Man Lifted Up – John 3:1-21

Signs indicated Jesus was from God
New birth necessary to enter God’s kingdom
Born of water and the Spirit 1 Peter 1:22-25
Jesus explained heavenly things with earthly things v.10-12
Because He came from Heaven v.13
Jesus lifted up for sin to be cured v.14
Resembled the remedy 2 Cor. 5:21; 8:9
Do not worship the cross on which He died
We must obediently believe in Him v.15-21
