1 United Distillers & Vintners was a world class premium drinks manufacturer with a formidable portfolio of leading brands in the spirits and wines categories. These brands included: Smirnoff, Goldschlager, Gobsons Finest, J&B, José Cuervo, Tanqueray, Malibu, Beaulieu Vineyards and Bushmills Irish whiskey. Employing over 15,000 people worldwide with offices in over 70 countries they have manufacturing facilities across the globe including Great Britain, Ireland, United States, Canada, Spain, Italy, Africa, Latin America, Australia, India and the Caribbean. In addition UDV also owned Burger King, Haagen Das and General Mills. Case Study: Through the acquisition of Guinness the traditional operating model manufacturing and distribution changed to include on premise service and delivery. Extensive custom applications developed for outbound sales and supporting fleet distribution were developed with direct feeds allowing credit/debit processing. Significant business process and staffing consolidation changed the face of both organizations. 2 Page 2 of 2 With the acquisition of Guinness and the concurrent divestiture of the ‘Green Giant’ and ‘Haagen Das’ brands the scope and complexity of this initiative was massive. Each initiative on it’s own was significant enough to warrant a major execution team. Additionally, the timing of the projects was critical due to the fact that a substantial portion of the funding for the Guinness acquisition was based on the sale of the ‘Green Giant’ and ‘Haagen Das’ brands to General Mills. The scale and diversity of such opposing projects was challenging to say the least. Having managed UDV’s IT services for several years prior to these initiatives, BIA had a comprehensive understanding of the business and IT environment. Building on that relationship and BIA’s ability to manage very high profile projects GuinnessUDV selected BIA to manage the integration of disparate technology services, business processes and facilities resulting from the mega-merger. Unparalleled customer service, best practice solutions and industry knowledge kept a very diverse set of initiatives on time & on budget. In only six months BIA was able to deliver the acquisition and both divestitures in their entirety from planning to delivery without a hitch. Also during this time new technologies in supply chain and business process management were developed that would allow the business to continue double digit organic growth. Third party logistics, co-packers, consignment partners, credit card processing…all amounted to over 72 data interfaces.
