Any other applications of correlation gas chromatography? Suppose you had an aviation fuel and for quality control purposes you were interested in measuring the vaporization enthalpy of this fuel. How would you do it?

Figure 2. The gas chromatographic trace of RJ-4 at T = 394.8 K on a 30 m SPB-5 capillary column; the retention time of the solvent, CH 2 Cl 2, is not shown.

Consider a mixture of i structurally related components. For each component detected by the gas chromatograph, either individually or as a multiple component peak, the following relationship applies: ln (1/t 1a ) = ln(A 1) – g sln H m (T m ) (1) /RT; ln (1/t 2a ) = ln(A 2 ) – g sln H m (T m ) (2) /RT;... ln (1/t ia ) = ln(A i ) – g sln H m (T m ) (i) /RT Multiplying each component by its mol fraction and summing over all i components results in the following equation:
5
The enthalpy term on the extreme right, n i g sln H m (T m ) (i), is the enthalpy of transfer from solution to the vapor of the entire mixture, g sln H m (T m ) (mix). A plot of the sum of n i ln(1/t ic ) verses 1/T should result in a straight line with a slope of - g sln H m (T m ) (mix). As an example, consider the following:
