2 INTRODUCTION Every two years our televisions, newspapers, and every other media outlet is flooded with coverage of the Olympic Games. This year, 2012, the summer Olympic Games will be held in London, England. The summer Olympics will not be held again until 2016. The reason being is that even though the Olympics are held every two years, the games alternate between winter and summer sports. There are many athletes from around the world who will come together at these games and display their talents trying their best at winning a gold medal. Currently, you are studying/researching information about many of the countries that are involved in the Olympic Games in your Geography class. This assignment will provide you with an even more indepth knowledge of the athletes from some of these countries and the sports in which they will be competing.

3 Students will work individually or collaborate in pairs or a group of three in researching and creating a final product based around one chosen athlete that will be competing in the 2012 Olympic Games. Each individual or group will use the websites provided to - choose an athlete from the country given to you in your Geography class (If you are working with a partner or in a group, choose one athlete from one of the countries assigned to you); -write a short biography on that athlete, which will include information on their background, country, and culture; -the sport in which they are competing; -and how many, if any, other athletes from that country have competed and/or won in that same sport in any past Olympic Games. If working in a group, each student in the group will be in charge of completing a specific component to the project. As a group, students will use this webquest as a guide to creating their Power Point or poster for a class presentation. TASK (2012). Google Images

4 PROCESS You will research a specific athlete and create a Power Point or poster of the information you compile and present it to the rest of the class. 1. You will then decide who will research each topic (short bio of athlete, info. on sport of athlete, past competitors/winners of same sport from athlete's country). 3. Students will use websites posted in this webquest to complete research. 4. All Power Points will be posted to student's Bridges account. 5. Power Points and poster will be presented to the class. Power Points and poster must include: -a written component -photos/images of researched information -APA citations (in-text and reference page) http://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/560/01/
