2. The Road to Becoming King Edward I was born June 17 th 1239. He was the first son of Henry III. In 1253 he sided with a baronial reform movement. He was supporting the Provisions of Oxford. In the Battle of Lewes, he was held hostage by the rebellious barons. He and his followers escaped a few months later. Soon after escaping, they joined a fight against Simon de Montfort. Edward I left on a crusade to the Holy Land. On his way back he got the news of his fathers passing. Edward was crowned as Westminster king on August 19, 1274.

3. The Reign Of King Edward I Edward had two main events in his reign of being king. 1. His first few years were focused on reforming royal administration. Through an extensive legal inquiry he investigated the tenure of various feudal liberties. Edwards main focus was drawn towards military affairs. Edwards campaign went well, he built castles and towns in the country and settled them with Englishmen.

4. Continued 2. Edwards second big event was putting all his efforts in toward Scotland. In the war that followed, the Scots held there ground. The war was still going on, extensive military campaigns required high levels of taxation. This crisis was initially averted, but it still remained unsolved. Edward died on July 7, 1307. He left a number of financial problems and political problems behind. As well as the Scotland War.

5. William of Normandy William was born in 1028. He had a lot of titles before the title King. Some include: Duke of Normandy and William the Bastard just to name a couple. Williams became the Duke of Normandy at the age of 17. He got the name William the Bastard because William's illegitimacy affected his early life. As a child, his life was in constant danger from his kinsmen who thought they had a more legitimate right to rule. One man in his childhood actually tried to stab him and missed, he stabbed the kid next to him instead.

6. William of Normandy William started governing Normandy immediately. Two years after being crowned Duke of Normandy he went to visit Edward the Confessor. In this visit William claimed that Edward put him down as the next heir to the thrown. Normandy was always under a constant threat. After repulsing two French invasions. Williams biggest capture would be Maine. The people of Maine at first were unwilling to except him as there leader. In 1063 William's army ravaged the land until he received their submission.

7. Continued William died on the morning of September 9,1087. Six weeks before, William had attempted to capture the French town of Mantes. He got sick from heat and exhaustion. William of Malmesbury says that his stomach was protruding over the front part of his saddle, and that his internal organs ruptured. William retreated and returned to his capitol of Rouen.
