 14 “And to the angel of the church in Laodicea write: ‘The words of the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of God's creation. 15 “‘I know your works: you are neither cold nor hot. Would that you were either cold or hot! 16 So, because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth. Revelation 3:14-22

 17 For you say, I am rich, I have prospered, and I need nothing, not realizing that you are wretched, pitiable, poor, blind, and naked. 18 I counsel you to buy from me gold refined by fire, so that you may be rich, and white garments so that you may clothe yourself and the shame of your nakedness may not be seen, and salve to anoint your eyes, so that you may see. Revelation 3:14-22

 19 Those whom I love, I reprove and discipline, so be zealous and repent. 20 Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me. 21 The one who conquers, I will grant him to sit with me on my throne, as I also conquered and sat down with my Father on his throne. 22 He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.’” Revelation 3:14-22

 It is extremely dangerous for a believer to be in a lukewarm state that is being self-satisfied and content apart from Christ Main Idea

 I. The church was not dependent on Christ (vs 15-17a) II. The church will be spit out of Jesus’ mouth (vs 16-17b) III. The church was rebuked because Jesus loves it (vs 18-20) Outline

 Revelation 3:15-17a 15 “‘ I know your works: you are neither cold nor hot. Would that you were either cold or hot! 16 So, because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth. 17 For you say, I am rich, I have prospered, and I need nothing, not realizing that you are wretched, pitiable, poor, blind, and naked. I. The church was not dependent on Christ

 a)The church was casual (vs 15-16a) b)The church was content in the world (vs 17a) I. The church was not dependent on Christ

 a)The church was casual (vs 15-16a) So, because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold They were indifferent to spiritual things o They did not have fire for Christ o They did not have refreshment in Christ I. The church was not dependent on Christ

 b) The church was content in the world (vs 17a) For you say, I am rich, I have prospered, and I need nothing, o They were proud of their “own” acquisition of wealth o They felt like they were satisfied with all they gained for themselves I. The church was not dependent on Christ

 Revelation 3:16-17b 16 So, because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth. 17 For you say, I am rich, I have prospered, and I need nothing, not realizing that you are wretched, pitiable, poor, blind, and naked. II. The church will be spit out of Jesus’ mouth

 III. The church was rebuked because Jesus loves it Revelation 3:18-20 18 I counsel you to buy from me gold refined by fire, so that you may be rich, and white garments so that you may clothe yourself and the shame of your nakedness may not be seen, and salve to anoint your eyes, so that you may see. 19 Those whom I love, I reprove and discipline, so be zealous and repent. 20 Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me.

 III. The church was rebuked because Jesus loves it Jesus says this because He loves them (v19) Those whom I love, I reprove and discipline, so be zealous and repent. o Rebukes and disciplines out of love o He wants to commune with them and to restore a right relationship with Christ.

 III. The church was rebuked because Jesus loves it Revelation 3:20 20 Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me.

 III. The church was rebuked because Jesus loves it Revelation 3:18 18 I counsel you to buy from me gold refined by fire, so that you may be rich, and white garments so that you may clothe yourself and the shame of your nakedness may not be seen, and salve to anoint your eyes, so that you may see.

 III. The church was rebuked because Jesus loves it o Buy from Jesus gold refined in the fire, so you may become rich Rich not of earthly things but of heavenly things

 III. The church was rebuked because Jesus loves it o White garments so that you may clothe yourself, and that the shame of your nakedness will not be revealed The purpose of having white garments is so Christ will clothe us. He will cover our shame. The garments are obtained only by being washed and cleansed in the blood of the Lamb

 III. The church was rebuked because Jesus loves it o Salve to put on your eyes, so you can see The Word and Spirit of Christ are the only cure for spiritual blindness

 III. The church was rebuked because Jesus loves it o The church needs to stop relying on itself and instead rely on Jesus for spiritual riches, righteousness, and insight. Stop thinking it is up to you. Start thinking of how much you need the Lord and praise Him and thank Him every day for His grace and mercy.
