2 Land Italy has two islands, Sardinia and Sicily.
Italy is 116,305 square miles. As most people know Italy is shaped like a boot. Italy is very mountainous. And is also a peninsula.

3 Climate Winter – Cold and Rainy towards the North
Mild weather in the south. Summer – Italy gets very hot in the summer time. South temperatures can reach up to 104 degrees F.

4 Landscapes North – Alpine mountains. Large bodies of water. Forests
South - Mediterranean Sea. Climate More Agriculture

5 HISTORY Leaning Tower of Pisa- Weighs 14,500 tons
Took 800 years to finish 55.86 meters tall Europe's most famous monument The tower has 294 steps Was up right for 5 years. Construction started August 1173. The construction was interrupted by wars. The Rome Coliseum – Started by Vespasian Built on site of Nero's Golden Palace 187 meters long, 50 meters tall 240 arches, and can fit 70,000 people Became know as the arena of death

6 Population 59.83 Million People

7 Language Italian is the official language in Italy, although dialects can be different from place to place. English is the second most common language in Italy. The more young Italians usually just speak English.

8 Personal Appearances Italians take care of their appearance and tend to dress up often. Many people base their opinions on people by how they dress. Italy is a major part of the European fashion industry. Also older women usually wear dresses.

9 Gestures Italians are known for their hand gestures during conversations. Hand gestures are more likely used in the south . Southerners often communicate with just their hands, besides using words.

10 Eating Italians eat in continental style. They eat with their fork in their left hand and their knife in the right. Hands are placed above the table. Nobody leaves the table until everybody is finished. Italians do NOT rush their food. A meal can take 1 to 4 hours

12 Holidays Italy's religious and national Holidays include;
New Years, Easter, Liberation Day, Labor Day, Assumption of the Virgin Mary, All Saints day, Christmas, ect… Italy has similar holidays to the US.

13 Government The Italian Republic is divided into 20 regions.
Italy's president is head of the state, while the prime minister is head of the government. President- Sergio Mattarella Prime Minister- Matteo Renzi

14 Economy Italy's economy is based on agriculture in the south, in the north economy is mostly based on industry. Italy is one of the worlds largest wine producers, and is a major producer in cheese. Other important crops include wheat, potatoes, corn, rice, fruits, and olive oil. Steel and iron are a big industry producer in Italy as well

15 Education To go to school in Italy you must be 6 years old.
To graduate school you must be 14 years old. Classes are held Monday through Saturday. Most children spend their free time doing homework or studying.

16 Health Health services are cooperated through government.
People can chooses their physician. The government pays for most of the services. Only about 10% of Italians wear seatbelts, although in 1918 a law was passed that made wearing a seatbelt mandatory.
