3 Read the following case and answer the questions given at the end. Rajeev Kumar had been a production line worker for about ten years with one of the reputed multinational company. Even though Rajeev was a strong Union leader he was promoted to the rank of supervisor with the hike of Rs.60,000/- per annum more in salary. Rajeev believed the offer was too good to be refused. He was now the part of Management and discharging his duties and responsibility as supervisor. In the last 2 months, two major incidents had occurred that troubled Rajeev. The first incident involved an argument with the Union leader in which the leader claimed the Rajeev was harassing to the employees intentionally. Rajeev lost his temper and used foul language. Finally Union leader withdraw the grievance after asking and getting Rajeev to apologize. The second incident involved with an employee who was repeatedly late for work. Rajeev noticed three occurrences and after forth he sent the employee home without any pay as prescribed in labour management agreement rule. Again, a grievances was filed against Rajeev by Union stating that Rajeev was harassing an employee.

4 During the meeting with production manager, the union produced the employee’s punching card and expressed that the employees had clocked in on time for the day he was sent home. Rajeev insisted that the employee was late for about 20 minutes. The production manager also expressed his concerned at Rajeev behaviour and several others employees had confirmed that Rajeev was a nit- picker and seemed to enjoy harassing the employees. Rajeev was highly depressed over these situations. He understood that the Union was out to get him. Although he liked his job as a supervisor but wondered why the employees had turned against him. Questions: What problems do you see in the case? Is there any change in the behaviour of Rajeev? Elaborate. Why the attitudes of Workers have changed with Rajeev since he became a supervisor? What should Rajeev do in present situation?
