1 Why Apples & Honey on Rosh Hashana?

2 Why do we eat apples and honey in the first place? On Rosh Hashana we are celebrating the new year. We pray for a sweet new year ahead, so we eat sweet foods in the hopes of making our year sweet.

3 Why specifically apples? According to Midrash, Gan Eden smelled like an apple orchard. Eating apples reminds us of Gan Eden.

4 In Shir Hashirim, King Shlomo uses images of being under an apple tree to awaken G-d’s love. On Rosh Hashana we hope to awaken G-d’s love for us so that we have a good year ahead.
