2 Bridge designing Competition Bridge designing Competition This because they are designed for different uses. You are going to be a group of bridge designers. You have a simple quest - to build the strongest bridge! Simple rules: 1.You have a budget of 500 000 RMB 2.Your bridge has to span a gap of at least 20cm long. 3.All bridges will be tested at the end of the lesson to see the maximum weight they can take.

3 Bridge designing Competition Bridge designing Competition Step 1. You need to research designs for your bridge, Evidence of this research should be at least two sides of A4 and a bibliography of at least 4 websites and images of various designs of bridge including strengths and weaknesses

4 Phase 2 Schematics and proposal You can use a limited number of materials to see lengths and relative strengths. You need a design which can be drawn on graph paper. Include notes on how it will be constructed. If the plan is good enough then the bank will agree to the loan of 500,000RMB

5 Bridge designing Competition Bridge designing Competition Building materials cost money though! Paper (per Sheet) 10,000RMB Straw (each) 20, 000RMB Masking tape (10 cm)£10,000 Paper clip (pair)£5000 Glue stick (1)£20,000 Remember: 1.Your plan will need to include the quantities of each item required. 2.You can only use these materials so the plan must contain contingency for any mistakes.

6 Testing Phase 100g masses and cradle will be placed in the middle of the bridge until it fails. The winner will receive a prize Their will also be a prize for the most attractive looking bridge with best proposal.

7 Class competition 4 teams per class Prize for class winners Mr Toppins group are using pasta so that we can compare the builds. There will be a Prize for overall winner of year 9 based on effort and proposal quality.
