2. PARAGRAPHS AND TOPIC SENTENCES – RB, p 77 - ARE THE FOLLOWING SENTENCES TRUE (T) or FALSE (F)?
A paragraph usually consists of several sentences based on various topics.
Individual sentences within a paragraph should be connected using sequencing words (e.g. firstly, then, finally), reference words such as pronouns (e.g. which, where, that) or linking words (e.g. therefore, however).
It is advisable to use one-sentence paragraphs.
A line space should be left to show where one paragraph ends and another begins.
A topic sentence introduces or summarises the central idea of the whole text, and usually comes at the end of each paragraph.
The other sentences in the paragraph expand, explain or exemplify the main idea expressed by a topic sentence.
A good topic sentence should intrigue the reader’s interest and make him want to read on.

3. PARAGRAPHS AND TOPIC SENTENCES - RB p 77 – Do the Task II.
Study the paragraph in the RB, p 77. Find the topic sentence and explain how the other sentences in this paragraph expand, explain or exemplify the main idea.

4. LINKING WORDS AND PHRASES – RB, p 78 – Which od these do you know?

Study their function in a sentence and do the tasks IV & V in the RB, p 78.

5. PARAGRAPH WRITING – RB, p 79.
Use the sentences from task VI, p 79, written in jumbled order, to write a paragraph about world tourism. Organise the sentences into logical order by using the necessary connectors and linking words.

6. SUMMARY AND PARAGRAPH WRITING – PUT THE FOLLOWING STEPS IN THE RIGHT ORDER.
The other sentences in the paragraph expand, explain or exemplify this main idea.
Use linking devices to connect your sentences into a meaningful paragraph.
Underline the relevant information (key words, phrases and sentences) in the text.
Express the ideas simply and clearly. Don’t repeat yourself.
Proofread your paragraph and check that it is within the word length ( words).
Start the paragraph with a topic sentence, which introduces or summarises the central idea of the paragraph.
Don’t copy phrases and sentences from the text (content points), but re-phrase them in your own sentences.

7. GUIDELINES FOR SUMMARY AND PARAGRAPH WRITING
