Arches National Park by Mrs. Konicki

http://3dparks.wr.usgs.gov/arches2/index.html Getting to Arches is not difficult. It is right off Hwy. 191 out- side of Moab, Utah.

There are plenty of cool hikes you can take, ranging from.1 to several miles in length. There are biking trails on the slickrock nearby. Take plenty of scenic pictures! Camping could be fun, but primitive! Search for petroglyphs in the area. See Canyonlands National Park. Moab has lots of fun shops to buy souvenirs.

Landforms and Vegetation cliffs arches desert arroyos basins Arches is considered to be a high desert, with elevations ranging from 4,085 ft. to 5,653 ft. mixed grasslands fins petrified dunes

Landscape arch is one of the longest ones in the world. Double arch is a great place to hike and take pictures of! Delicate arch is where Utah’s license plate design comes from. Arches are the result of millions of years of deposition and erosion. Arches National Park has the highest density of arches anywhere in the world. Over 2000 arches!

You are looking at the top of Balanced Rock.

This is a short trail leading to one of the arches. There are often lizards running through the brush and you might spot a cool type of soil as well.

Along the trails, you will find black colored crust. This crust is actually made up of living organisms—algae, fungi, and bacteria. It is called cryptobiotic crust or biological soil crust. If you step on it, it will die. The park has signs saying, “Don’t Bust the Crust!”

This is a picture of my sons at Tower Arch.

That’s my mom! She thinks it’s cool to be here, but wasn’t too crazy about hiking much. It was a little warm on this day. Did you know that this park opened in 1971, although it had been considered a national monument since 1929?

Animals in the park Over 180 species of birds, including the bald eagle and raven 52 species of mammals, including mule deer and bighorn sheep Fish, amphibians, and reptiles are also found. This includes the rattlesnake and collared lizard.

Another lovable animal!! We all enjoyed our trip to Arches National Park!
