SCHOOL IMP.GOALS ELA: All students will improve their ELA skills across the curriculum. Math: All students will be proficient in math. Science: All students will be proficient in science Social Studies: All students will be proficient in social studies. *No goals for Athletics but we strive to give our student-athletes the best experience possible while teaching them good sportsmanship, work ethic, and competitive spirit.

ACTION PLAN OBJECTIVES Athletic budget normally runs between $30,000- $40,000 per year. ALL OF THIS MONEY MUST BE FUNDRAISED! Goal of this bowling fundraiser is to raise at least $3,000. This year we added Bowling and Baseball to our already lengthy list of sports offered. (Approx $7,000 cost) Budget to get things “up to par” will be approx $50,000 in 2013-2014. Fundraising is usually carried out by a small percentage of the students leaving many families “fundraised out”...

TYPES OF INVOLVEMENT StudentsStudents- as bowlers, or helping run the event ParentsParents- as bowlers, or donating prizes and finding supporters for the event StaffStaff- as bowlers, helping run the event, finding supporters for the event, etc. Community-Community- as bowlers, supporters of the event, or donating as lane sponsors. Bowling Center-Bowling Center- donating space to bowl for minimum cost possible. Letting us bowl for free our first year having a bowling team.

PARTNERSHIPS CREATED SCHOOL- The school had staff involved in the process of reaching out to the community and to local families to get them involved in this event. “Put a face with a place”. FAMILY- Getting them out having a great afternoon as a family for a great cause, meeting staff and school officials in a casual setting helps develop relationships that extend beyond the classroom. “These people care about us” COMMUNITY- They got exposure in advertising, showing the families that they are there to support the school and students. Willingness to help out when asked. Having pride in their local school and the families that live there.

RESOURCES Time-Time- the biggest investment in this was organization of the event. We probably each spent between 40-100 hours planning this event. Money-Money- we ran this event with almost no cost to us. Most items were donated from local businesses or families donated gift baskets. $5 from each bowler who signed up went to the alley to pay for their costs that day. Space-Space- 20 lanes and all facilities at the Strikers Entertainment Center in Richmond. Materials-Materials- prizes, keeping track of bowlers signed up, prizes donated, and raffle plans.

GETTING THE WORD OUT! HOW DID WE GO ABOUT GETTING PEOPLE TO ATTEND THIS EVENT? 1) Posted Flyers around the school 2) Posted links to flyers on the Athletics Website & School Website 3) Sent 2 flyers home with every student in the school 4) Announced the fundraiser each day for over 3 weeks 5) Asked staff and students for leads on donations and prizes 6) Sent home REMIND 101 messages, email blasts, notes, etc. HOW DID WE GET DONATIONS FOR THE EVENT? 1)Walk Ins 2)Calls 3)Word of mouth 4)Staff connections

REFLECTIONS Community willing to help if asked. Very loyal base of people. School participation LOW from parents and students (Thankful for those who did help!) People from our lives willing to go over and above to help out. (Would not have been possible without this) Most families do not understand or are not willing to help with the correlation between new sports/new equipment and supporting fundraisers Too many fundraisers during the school year, need to figure out how to balance that fact out with needing to raise 40-50k per year for athletics.

Suggested Improvements I don’t think there is anything else we could do to promote it to our student body or parents. We had daily announcements, etc. SOME IDEAS: Lower the cost? For staff and students? Find large corporate sponsors to make up the difference? Fall Event before people become worn out?
