5 Reading Expectations  Reading grades are comprised from reading minutes, quizzes, book analyses, and end of unit district assessments.  Reading Minutes - Students are required to do a minimum of 100 minutes of “out-of-class” reading each week. Students will record their reading and turn in their slips as soon as each 100 minute goal has been accomplished. Each 100 minute slip is worth 10 points. If a student reads more than the required reading for the quarter, minutes will be recorded as extra credit.  Quizzes may be given on assigned reading and are worth 25 points.  Students are required to present two book analyses each quarter. Students may choose from nine book analyses. They may not do the same analysis more than once a quarter or twice a year. No more than one analysis on each book and students may not do an analysis on a book that was assigned by a teacher to read. Book reports are worth 50 points.  End of Unit District Assessments – These are reading passages in which students are to read a short passage, answer multiple choice questions, and an essay for each passage. These assessments are worth 100 points.

6 Language Expectations  Language is a comprised of grammar and writing.  We will do daily grammar assignments. There are periodic quizzes to assess comprehension of skills covered.  We will do daily, monthly, and quarterly writing assignments. These assignments are graded using the rubric provided. Spelling Expectations  A spelling pre-test will be given the first day of class for the week. If a student gets 100% on the pretest, they are excused from that week’s spelling assignment and the test at the end of the week. If students are not present for the pre-test, they must do the assignment & take the test at the end of the week. Pre-tests are not given ahead of time nor can they be made up.  Spelling assignments are to be done each week and turned in on the last day of class for that week prior to the test. The assignments are to complete a “bingo” for each list. One bingo is worth 10 points. A black out is worth 25 out of 10 points (so you earn 15 extra credit points).  Spelling tests are on the last day of class for the week. They are worth 100 points.  If a student is absent and misses the post test, STUDENTS are responsible for scheduling a time to make up the test.

7 Social Studies Expectations  We will read each chapter in class together.  We will take notes and answer key questions for each chapter.  We will do a variety of projects that enhance the concepts covered in the chapters. Some will be student choices and others will be teacher choices.  Students are encouraged to re-read each chapter on your own.  Student’s grades are comprised from participation, vocabulary words, notes, projects, & chapter tests.
