How to use the SDI RSS Feed 3 Introduction In this presentation we will show how an SDI profile may be created by the patron and viewed via an RSS viewer. While we briefly discuss the definitions in Internet Explorer 7 for viewing the RSS, this is not the main purpose of the presentation. It is assumed in this presentation that the end user has a working knowledge of viewing RSS feeds.

How to use the SDI RSS Feed 4 Permission to make an SDI Profile In order for the patron to be able to make an SDI profile, his patron profile should include this permission. Here is the BA_DEGREE profile.

How to use the SDI RSS Feed 5 Permission to make an SDI Profile Patron Daniel Boone, ID 9043502920 has the BA_DEGREE profile and can thus make an SDI profile.

How to use the SDI RSS Feed 6 Creating the SDI Profile Patron Daniel Boone, ID 9043502920, logs into the web OPAC.

How to use the SDI RSS Feed 16 Viewing the SDI results via RSS Daniel Boone then can view his RSS URL

How to use the SDI RSS Feed 17 Viewing the SDI results via RSS The RSS URL may be viewed with any RSS feed viewer. The RSS feed viewer may be a “stand alone” application, or part of a web browser such as Mozilla or Internet Explorer 7.

How to use the SDI RSS Feed 18 Viewing the SDI results via RSS In Internet Explorer 7 we will click the “Favorites Center” which will allow us to view, among other items, RSS feeds.

How to use the SDI RSS Feed 19 Viewing the SDI results via RSS After selecting the “Favorites Center” we will choose “Feeds”

How to use the SDI RSS Feed 20 Viewing the SDI results via RSS For organizational purposes (not necessary) we will right click “Microsoft Feeds” and choose “Create New Folder”

How to use the SDI RSS Feed 21 Viewing the SDI results via RSS We have called our new folder “ALEPH SDI”

How to use the SDI RSS Feed 22 Viewing the SDI results via RSS We place the RSS URL (which Daniel Boone saw after clicking “My Library Card” and “SDI Profiles”) in the URL Bar of Internet Explorer 7 We then see the results. These two records on next slide were added to the database between the time Daniel Boone made his profile and the last time SDI-01 was run

How to use the SDI RSS Feed 23 Viewing the SDI results via RSS

How to use the SDI RSS Feed 24 Viewing the SDI results via RSS Below we have clicked “Subscribe to this feed” and placed it in the folder we made called “ALEPH SDI”
