1. PROPERTIES OF LOVE

2.  Eph 4:15-16 – but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head — Christ — 16 from whom the whole body, joined & knit together by what every joint supplies, according to the effective working by which every part does its share, causes growth of the body for the edifying of itself in love.

3.  Truth Needs Love –  Two extremes: Teaching the truth with malice. Allowing “sympathy” the prevent speaking truth.  God has linked the truth with love (1 Pet 1:22; John 13:34; 17:17).

4.  Love needs Truth –  It IS loving to tell the truth.  Love will always consult the truth (John 14:15; Rom 13:8; 1 Thess 4:9).

5.  Love does not rejoice over someone’s sins.  Jesus did not rejoice (Luke 19:41).  Paul did not rejoice (Phil 3:18).  (Mark 10:11-12; Luke 12:13-15).  Love does not rejoice over personal sins (1 Cor 5:1-2).

6.  Sin insults God (Psalm 69:9; John 2:17).  Sin deserves death (Rom 6:23; Isa 59:1-2; Ezek 18:4, 20).  Love does not delight in sin (1 John 2:15- 17; Job 31:29; Ezek 33:11).  Love does not invite sin in (Jas 1:14-15; 1 Pet 2:11).

7.  Rejoice not with the false teacher & with the evil (2 John 9-11; 3 John 9, 11).  Rejoice with those who teach & live by truth (1 John 2:3; 2 John 6; 3 John 3-8).

9.  God does not rejoice in iniquity  Eph 4:29-30 – Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers. 30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.  God rejoices in truth  Psa 147:11 – The Lord takes pleasure in those who fear Him, in those who hope in His mercy.
