Data Displays TEKS 6.12 C Summarize numeric data with numerical summaries, including the mean and median (measures of center) and the range and interquartile range (IQR) (measures of spread), and use these summaries to describe the center, spread, and shape of the data distribution. TEKS 6.13 A Interpret numeric data summarized in dot plots, stem and-leaf plots, histograms, and box plots.

Key Vocabulary Understanding vocabulary is important here! Data set- the numbers or objects that are being graphed or measured Mean- average, sum of the data values then divided by the number of values Median- the middle data value, remember to order data values from least to greatest first Mode- most often data value, in percent bar graphs the largest bar Range- the highest data value minus the lowest data value Outlier- data value away from the other data values on a number line

Mode- most often data value

Answer: Bananas The temptation is to say “Grape and Strawberry” because 10 happens more But if you listed out apple 18 times, banana 25 times, grapefruit 5 times and the rest of the fruit, banana would be in the list the most times

How to display data? Problem, how to show the grades? Venn diagrams are great for comparing 2 things not many different things Stem and Leaf plots are great for showing many numbers The problem is which plot is right?

Answer: G Answer F did not show every data value Stem and leaf plots show the organization of many data values and their distribution

Vocabulary term: Range

Answer: B 325 Range is the highest value minus the lowest value 400-75=325

Box plots display data by grouping them into quartiles

Dot plots show how data is spread out (distributed) Each dot is a data value

Measurement TEKS 6.8 C Write equations that represent problems related to the area of rectangles, parallelograms, trapezoids, and triangles and volume of right rectangular prisms where dimensions are positive rational numbers. TEKS 6.8 D Determine solutions for problems involving the area of rectangles, parallelograms, trapezoids, and triangles and volume of right rectangular prisms where dimensions are positive rational numbers.

Important Vocabulary Terms Area- the space inside of a 2 dimensional (flat) shape Volume- the space inside of a 3 dimensional shape The recommended way to solve area and volume problems: 1.Identify which formula you need 2.Fill in the formula with the information given 3.Solve for the missing part of the formula 4.Check your answer by putting it into your formula and rework the problem

Area of a Triangle When working with triangles you only need to find 2 things, base and height Very important that you remember to divide by 2 or multiply by 1/2

Formula, fill in formula, solve

A= ½(8.5)14 A=59.5

Area of a quadrilateral (Four sided shapes) Parallelograms have the same Formula for area as a rectangle Trapezoids have two parallel bases Remember to add the bases first You can multiply by ½ or divide by 2 Either way gets the same answer

Remember to use formula chart

Volume of Rectangular Prisms Very important: The book says V=lwh but the formula chart says V=Bh Who is right? Technically both because B=lw what matters is that you know how to use your formula chart

Use your formula chart Formula chart says V=Bh

Use your formula chart Formula chart says V=Bh

Read carefully The problem looks like a volume problem but read carefully, it is asking how do you find the area of the shaded part? The base is shaded, and the base is a rectangle Area of a rectangle: A=lw so B=lw Answer:C
