1 Plans for the DAC Program at X-17 Short term (existing $90K) Purchase symmetric DACs and diamonds Install Laue-Laue mono in 17B3 (NSLS provides) Improve K/B system, diagnostics –Aim for <10x10 micron beam (6x12 demonstrated previously on 17C) Share MAR345 with 17B2 with 17C when 17B2 is not using it Improve cleanup slits Install online ruby system? Replace CAMAC electronics Motorize stages to allow rapid mono-white switch Improve cryogenic loading

2 Plans for the DAC Program at X-17 Renewal Proposal Retain white beam on X-17C White and mono on X17B3 –Unique facility for white/mono single crystal Redesign table in 17B3 Replace laser heating system in 17B3 –Motorized motions, solid state laser Detectors to be bought –MAR345 or equivalent (share 17C, 17B3) –MARCCD or equivalent (share 17C, 17B2, 17B3) Gas loading system based on APS design

3 Minimum Staffing 1 beamline scientist per station 1 post-doc per station –Laser heating specialist –Post-docs with nearby university supervision (Princeton, Stony Brook) 1 mechanical tech shared at NSLS COMPRES 1 software person shared at NSLS COMPRES More post-docs from BNL?
