The course Tutors come from the Navy Schools and other civilians. YY E-Training (LMS) NOTES The Spanish Navy is delivering knowledge from its schools and training centers to the ships, with the help of the technology, instead of disembarking crews for the courses. Our Armada has decided to promote the accessibility of all its personnel to the Corporate Knowledge. What the SP Navy is really doing is to manoeuvre towards a Knowledge Based Organization. Personnel in charge of the operation and maintenance of a significant number of equipments and systems on our Fleet are being trained via on-line UVICOA courses through the Intranet. This has a very positive impact on the readiness of our ships, since disembarking of crew members is considerably reduced. Another advantage of this new way of training is the fact that the knowledge within these on-line courses, being on the net, accompanies the students for the rest of their professional career. Even more, this knowledge can not only be available for the ones attending the courses but also for other people who may need it anywhere at anytime. The Spanish Navy Virtual University (UVICOA) is now more than 6 year old and, from its very beginning, it has been seen like a way of transforming our Navy in a more operational organization. We, in the Naval Education and Training Directorate, are convinced that we are heading the right course by promoting the use of new technologies in education and training, making our people to get familiar with the working tools of the twenty first century. The use of UVICOA lets the Fleet units to increase their operational availability by enhancing the crew knowledge and preparation necessary for the operation and maintenance of the equipments and systems, and reducing the periods of disembarking of crew members for training.
