The stuff you should know but if you don’t, here is a refresher…….

2. Measuring in Half When you take a whole and split it in two.
Written like this: 1/2

3. Measuring in Quarters
When you take a half and cut it in half or a whole and split it into 4 parts.
Written like this: 1/4

4. Measuring in 8ths
When you take the 4ths and cut them in half, split the whole into 8 equal parts.
Written like this: 1/8

5. Measuring on a ruler Each line signifies a different measurement.
Make sure you simplify your fractions.

6. Simplifying Fractions
4/8 can be simplified because both numbers can be divided by 4. As a reduced fraction it will be 1/2.
5/8 cannot be simplified because neither number can be divided by the same number.
Same thing with 7/8
Hint: All the numbers will be at least reduced by 2

8. Lets put it together now
Here is the same ruler. Now lets go down the line and decide what length I am pointing to.
