History  Most would say that we have to know history so that we don’t repeat the mistakes of the past.  Is this really true?

History  I believe history is important because it is the story of us. History is our heritage. It gives us insight into where we came from and where we are headed.  Place Stories Place Stories

Government Why is understanding our government important? 1. Our government provides order and stability. 2. It gives us leadership and direction 3. It provides a framework for sustaining our nation 4. It guides us in making decision for our lives

Government How does our government impact you? 1. It provides funding for schools 2. It prepares you to be good citizens when you turn 18. You will have duties and responsibilities that you are accountable for 3. It shows you how the money that is collected through taxes is to be spent. When some of you join the workforce you will join the club of people who pay taxes

Government 4. It gives your family support if your parents lose their jobs or you need assistance 5. It provides you with rights 6. It gives you a voice in how things operate in our country. Right now, this happens through your conversations with parents/teachers, but eventually it will with your vote

Culture  Culture gives you understanding of why people are the way they are  It helps you understand what motivates people to make decisions  It also provides insight into the person that you are and who you will become in the future  It educates you about people who have different beliefs than you

Geography  Geography provides you with information about where you are located  Without geography, you really would be lost  An understanding of geography may show you why people make the decisions they make  Geography helps you understand the landscape  Geography allows you to explore how people interact with their environment
