3 OVERVIEW – INDIA INTERNATIONAL REGATTA 2014
India International Regatta 2015 is in it’s 7th year and is the first and only International regatta to be held in India. Based on the success of the event it has been included as part of the Asian Sailing Championship and will be the first event of the championship, starting this year. The event promotes International Racing for children in the age group of years helping develop future Asian and World champions in the sport. This event is anticipated to attract between competitors from around the world and Asia in particular. Last year saw representation from 9 countries Supported by Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Govt of India to host and attract International competitors and tourists to India. Combined event for the Youth Classes in the International Optimist, Laser 4.7, Laser Radial & the 29er Class of boats and windsurfing, this event will attract National and International media.

4 UNDERSTANDING THE SPORT – 29er
The 29er, designed by Julian Bethwaite, was launched world wide in 1999 as "the most exciting new youth boat for the 21st century." The boat is smaller, simpler and less expensive than its big brother, the Olympic Class 49er. Because of its size, it is simply the fastest and most thrilling boat available. The 29er provides sparkling performance for crews between kg making this an ideal boat for younger sailors. The 29er is already hailed in the USA as the "Performance Boat of the Year.“

5 UNDERSTANDING THE SPORT- Laser 4.7
The Laser 4.7 is a one-design dinghy class in the Laser series  and is used as the graduartion boat for sailors moving out of the Optimist before they are olkd enough and big enough to sail a Laser radial or Laser Full Rig. The 4.7 uses the same hull and top mast section as the Laser, but has a different (smaller) bottom mast section and sail. The sail is only 4.7 square metres, as opposed to 7 for the Laser Standard or 5.7 for the Laser Radial. The Laser is one of the most popular single-handed dinghies in the world. As of 2011, there are more than 250,000 boats worldwide. The Laser also provides very competitive racing due to the very tight class association controls which eliminate differences in hull, sails and equipment.

6 UNDERSTANDING THE SPORT- The Optimist
The Optimist was designed in 1947 by Clark Mills. The design was slightly modified and introduced to Europe by the Dane, Axel Damsgaard, and spread outwards across Europe from Scandinavia. The design was standardized in 1960 and became a strict one-design in 1995. The International Optimist is sailed in over 100 countries by over 160,000 skippers and it is the ONLY yacht approved by the International Sailing Federation exclusively for sailors under 16. Quite simply, it's the dinghy in which the world learns to sail. It's worth noting that at the Beijing Olympics, 85% of medal winning skippers were former Optimist dinghy sailors. The International Optimist is the ideal introduction to sailing.

7 UNDERSTANDING THE SPORT- RS One
RSOne, designed by Patrice Belbeoch, is an exciting, ISAF-approved one-design racing class . comes from the same racing pedigree as the Olympic RS:X. It is designed to allow young athletes to make the first steps towards Olympic competition. RSOne equipment includes a board with a daggerboard, and a sail of a specified uniform size – everyone competing on the same equipment. This is the first year it will be sailed at the IIR.

8 UNDERSTANDING THE SPORT- Racing
A Championship is a series of races sailed in what is known as fleet racing format, fleets of boats racing around the same course area at the same time. The boats race around courses, which incorporate a variety of different sailing angles, upwind, downwind and reaching. Races are scheduled to last between 30 to 75 minutes depending on the event. Scores are awarded according to finishing positions in each race. The lowest scores throughout the competition earn the medals. Like all sports the competitors need to be totally dedicated to the sport and train seven days per week to reach the top of the sport. They are athletes that require great deal of natural ability, endurance fitness, strength, balance and agility while also being extremely competitive and have a complete understanding of the technical side of aerodynamics and reading the wind and water.
