English System
Metric System
English System uses yards, feet, inches, and fractions.
Metric System uses meters, decimeters, centimeters, and millimeters.

3. Metric System Based on the number 10. Smallest lines are millimeters.

5. English System Based on feet and inches with fractional increments.

9. English System Red numbers relate to foot markings to the left.
e.g., 15 inches is also 1′- 3″.
Black triangles, at increments of 19.2 inches, are used in a similar fashion as the red 16-inch marks in layout work.
