Health protection activities The activities for health protection in the Republic of Bulgaria are bestowed upon state bodies and institutions which plan, elaborate and implement policies aimed at protecting citizens’ health by providing healthy living environment, control of communicable diseases, education in healthy life style and health prophylaxis.

5. State health control bodies The chief state health inspector of the Republic of Bulgaria, Regional inspectorates for protection and control of public health (RIPCPH) and National center of radiobiology and radiation protection (NCRRP).

6. Regional inspectorates for protection and control of public health provide for 1. Control for following health regulations of public facilities, products, goods and activities of importance to man’s health and environmental factors; 2. Control of communicable diseases; 3. Control of thee health status contact persons to infectiously ill, carriers and suspected cases, as well as other persons by epidemiological considerations; 4. Health promotion and integrated disease prophylaxis; 5. Laboratory control of environmental factors, as well as analyzing and estimating their influence on human health; 6. Monitoring, assessment and control of noise in urban territories and public buildings and pollutants in foods and drinking water; 7. Methodical, consultative and expert help for protection of public health in the region; 8. Development and implementation of regional programs and projects in the field of public health; 9. Implementation of national programs and projects in the field of public health; 10. Postgraduate training in the field of public health.

7. State health inspectors from the respective RIPCPH are authorized to 1. Free access to sites, products, goods, activities and persons, liable to control; 2. Request data and documents and obtain printed and/or electronic copies of them; 3. Take samples and specimens for lab tests in quantities sufficient for analyses; 4. Order the conduction of examinations and tests for assessing the persons’ health status; 5. Prescribe the removal from workplaces of persons who are ill or carriers and pose a threat to their surrounding; 6. Prescribe the implementation of obligatory hygienic and counter-epidemic measures, while setting timetables; 7. Place asserting signs in these cases; 8. Draw statements of administrative violations; 9. Make propositions on compulsory administrative measures foreseen in a law.
