1 Peter 5:1-7

1. How does Peter weave the gospel into his encouragement to elders? He addresses them as fellow elders and he reminds them of the glory to come. He addresses their New Man 2.Look at the negative phrases below. Then find the positive attitudes God wants Christian elders to have instead. “not because you must” but because your are willing “not greedy for money” but eager to serve “not lording it over those entrusted to you” but, being examples to them

3.In our congregations today, young men often hold offices (even the office of “elder”). Why should they still take Peter’s words in verse 5 to heart in dealing with older men? These older men have experience in the faith that the younger men can learn from. 4.We tend to be ambitious and proud. What does the Lord want us to do? Be humble servants

5.What might go through a pastor’s mind as he meditates on the encouragement of verses 2-4? What should go through the minds of the congregation members? How can I serve better?

1 Peter 5:8-14 1.The Bible teaches that Jesus overcame Satan. Why does Peter say that Satan can devour us? He’s like a roaring Lion – the King of the jungle – spend his time looking to destroy 2.What hope does Peter give us when we are called to go through temptation? Resist the devil and stand firm in the faith

3.In the context of Peter’s letter, what is the “true grace of God”? The fact that God brings us through suffering and heaven is ours The result is peace and confidence in our Lord 4.When we go through suffering, it often seems that we are all alone. Satan wants to make us think that way, because then we are easier prey. How does Peter encourage us? We are not alone. The Lord is with us as well as fellow believers.
